16-01-2002 ASP.NET v1.0 release!
On the 16th of January 2002 at midnight Redmond time, .NET was released! The most important part for ASP.NET are the .NET Framework distributable and the ASP.NET SDK. You can download both from the MSDN website, and the links below take you right to them:

If you have an MSDN subscription, you can download Visual Studio.NET from the MSDN website at http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/resources/subdwnld.asp

Microsoft's ASP.NET website (http://www.asp.net) has been completely revamped and the IBuySpy application (http://www.ibuyspy.com) has also been redone.
In the coming weeks ASPNL will add many new lessons and articles on ASP.NET so check for updates regularly.

11-10-2001 Java in .NET with Visual J#.NET
Microsoft has a new weapon in it's arsenal to win market share from Java: the release of Visual J#.NET Beta 1. With this tool Visual J++ and other Java programmers can use their existing knowledge to build applications and services on the .NET Framework. This makes it possible to write ASP.NET pages in Java! 10-10-2001 Visual Studio.NET release on Comdex
Microsoft is doing everything they can to announce the release of Visual Studio.NET and the entire .NET Framework on Comdex, held on 12-16 November. Even though it's not clear if Microsoft can make this happen, we do know however that the new version of Visual Studio will be in the stores by February. 13-09-2001 ASP.NET Connections cancelled
Due to the tragic evenents in the US the ASP.NET Connection Conference, as well as some other conferences have been cancelled. The conferences will be moved to 30 September - 3 Oktober, and will take place in Scottsdale, Arizona. more information

07-09-2001 ASPLists.com has been renamed ASPFriends.com
ASPLists.com has been renamed ASPFriends.com. Why? For one because not everybody knows what a mailiglist is exactly, and the people that don't could therefore miss out on one of the best resources on ASP. Secondly the people that make ASPFriends such a good resourch all do this because they love ASP, and they do this for free. The new name captures that idea better than anything. Finally because of technical issues you needed to send emails to listname@ls.asplists.com, a subdomain of ASPLists.com. No longer! You can now send emails to listname@aspfriends.com.

04-09-2001 Instant ASP 2.0 released
Halcyon Software has released version 2.0 of Instant ASP. Instant ASP runs on any Java-enabled Web Server or Application Server. For details and downloads look here

17-8-2001 New securitytools
Possibly due to the recent security-problems Microsoft has developed in cooperation with Shavlik Technologies, LLC. two new securitytools. MPSA (ment for private use and small companies) and HFNetChk (ment for system administrators).

17-8-2001 New magazine: asp.netPRO
Informant Communications Group (ICG) has announced it will publish a new monthly magazine, asp.netPRO, a magazine dedicated to developing robust, reliable, and secure Web-based solutions with ASP.NET. The first issue will be out in October 2001.
