BOOKS - ASP BEGINNERS
cover ASP in a nutshell
Author(s): A. Keyton Weissinger
ASPNL rating: 8

This book is mostly a reference, but as a learning book it's ok too, because the book is well structured. The explanation of the various subjects is solid, with good examples. If you haven't got any knowledge of ASP yet, this book may not be really suitable because it doesn't have any exercises and the sequence of the subjects is somewhat awkward when you need to learn ASP from scratch.

cover Beginning ASP databases
Author(s): John Kauffman
ASPNL rating: 7

If you want to learn more about the possibilities of ADO (ActiveX Data Objects) and databases, this book is a good start. A big disadvantage is that this book is based on the old client-server paradigma, which isn't suitable for high-traffic sites.

cover Teach Yourself Active Server Pages 3.0 in 21 Days
Author(s): Scott Mitchell and James Atkinson
ASPNL rating: 9

An excellent book to start with when you want to learn ASP. Well balanced and chapters that are easy to read. Well written with a good build up and fun exercises. As far as ASPNL is concerned one of the best book for beginners at the moment. Because of the way it's written, it's a little less practical to use as a reference.

cover Web Database Development Step By Step
Author(s): Jim Buyes - Microsoft Press
ASPNL rating: 7.5

Web Database Development Step By Step is very practical in nature, showing you the steps involved in creating a database driven website with ASP. Topics covered include setting up the web server, designing and setting up a database, and of course reading, displaying and changing data. The basics of ASP are also covered summarily, making this book excellent for people with some ASP knowledge. People with no ASP knowledge may find it hard to grasp, although the samples are very logical, making them easy to understand.
